Provence has for centuries been a nucleus for many religions. In the 14th century, the Papacy made Avignon its headquarters and they ruled from there for 70 years. In the 15th century, many Jews fled to Provence to escape the persecution of the Spanish and Portuguese inquisition and many synagogues were established in Carpentras, Cavaillion and Avignon among others.
This program is prepared for those of you who have a deep interest in religious establishment, architecture and history. The program will take place during the first week of May, when the trees and the flowers are in bloom.
